I wrote this piece one summer afternoon as I was looking out the window watching a thick haze of cottonwood seeds drifting by from the cottonwood trees on our greenbelt. It was really an unusual year for cottonwoods that season, and cottonwood seeds caused the air to look like a transparent curtain suspended on the summer breeze. My husband said that “Diaphanous” was the perfect word to describe the scene that day. It means “a delicate and transparent texture” — a perfect description of the inspiration for this song.
