My son, Andy, is all grown up now. At the time I wrote this piece about him, he was about 4 years old. He used to sit on the floor next to me as I was playing piano and play with his legos®, and action figures and teddy bears and somehow, he would create stories with all these toys that probably only made sense to him.

From my perspective, it looked like he was building giant cities and creating important drama with teddy bears that flew and, sometimes, even flying buildings. Eventually, the intensity would calm when he started to get sleepy and he kind of started to wind down -- like a music box that never quite ends on the right note.

I composed this piece as I watched him create his fantasy worlds, and I’ve dedicated this piece to my incredibly intense, creative, random and dramatic son, Andy.
