In our house, the piano sits in a big bay window that looks out onto the cul-de-sac that we live on. There’s a bunch of kids that live on our block, including my husband’s daughter, Corinna, when it’s warm outside, they like to get together at night and play games under the streetlight. One summer night, I was sitting at the piano observing the kids as they started to get together to play that night.

The first thing that happens is they go around to all the houses and ring doorbells to see who can come out and play. Then they all get together in the street and it looks to me like they’re having a serious meeting about the game that’s about to start. Then, they all run and hide, and then they run back to the street one at a time. Then, there’s another little meeting and it starts all over again.

I created this piece as I watched these children create this game and listened to their excited voices talking and laughing . This piece is dedicated to Corinna.
